Pheasant Hunting!
#1
I've been invited on a pheasant hunt a week from Sunday out in Strasburg.  Private land, no license needed.  Very excited since I haven't been pheasant/quail hunting since I was a teenager.  :)

I just cleaned up Betty Lou this evening and gave her a fresh coat of oil on her internals.

I'm ready to go bag some birds! Draw

Today was lots of fun! Weather was great, calm winds and blue skies.

Ended up going to Strasburg Game Birds. I wasnt sure of the name of the place earlier.

There was 8 of us and we split into 2 teams of 4. 3 dogs per team. 2 guides per team.

We also had 3 photographers present.

So I did pretty poorly, but to be expected since I havent been bird hunting in 23 years when I last went with my dad as a teenager.

I shot 13 shells, but only bagged 1 rooster.

The other 3 members of my team got 4 roosters and 5 chukar partridges. 10 birds total.

We flushed 43 pheasant, quail and chukar.

I definitely need some practice at the trap range. I kept stopping when following the bird and shooting behind it. Very very rusty.

But still a great day!

It looks like a great time. I'm very much like you in that I haven't been out shooting birds in quite some time. I used to hunt dove on my dad's property growing up, but it's been about 20 years. This year I made several plans to go out with some friends from work but they never panned out. That looks like a lot of fun. You may have only got one rooster but hunting is much like fishing in that the experience of getting out and spending time in the great outdoors is usually as much of a reward as coming home with your bag limit. Congratulations and a successful hunt which really requires only one thing, and that is everyone comes home safely.
